This shot was taken at a wedding that I was covering. Although it was taken in the marquee of the recption and with on camera flash the lighting was perfect. Pat my assistant smiled just at the right time.

Alex and Zak's wedding was held at Calstock Church - the reception was in a marquee across the road not far from the church. This was the wedding that Casltock had been waiting for, and the whole day was full of smiles and very happy fun loving people. having a great time.

Alex was very realaxed throughout the morning.........

From the moment we met John and Pat we knew instantly that we wanted them to be part of our day. John's infectious passion for wedding photography and Pat's meticulous attention to detail meant we knew we were in safe hands.
It was fantastic to share our excitement and vision for our special day and in the run up to the wedding John and Pat could not have been more supportive.
We had set no strict instructions for the photos - just fun and informal, and John and Pat rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion. From fish and chips to ice creams, deck chairs and crazy golf - they captured it all perfectly! John even had us in the sea, fully-dressed, at 6am the following morning - and we would not change a thing.
Our photos are perfect, and an amazing reflection of the day we had always hoped for.
We can not thank John and Pat enough for capturing the best day of our lives in such an original and creative way, and for remaining such fun friends since.
A year on we still cannot stop looking at the photos and smiling, laughing and crying at the emotion of a truly perfect day (and John's sun hat is still the talk of the town!).

From the first telephone call to the wedding day itself, John and Pat were amazing. We both felt completely comfortable in their company, and hardly knew the pictures were being taken. Pat gave amazing wedding tips and advice and was a fantastic help on the day!! The photos were fantastic and captured our special day perfectly. John and Pat met with us a couple of times before the wedding, which helped us get to know each other and definitely made the day much smoother. It was a pleasure to have them at our wedding. John even helped with a small surprise for the hubby on the wedding day! Although I think he was just as excited about it as I was!!! We couldn’t recommend them higher and we would without doubt use them again for professional photos.

Marilyn and Steve were married in Launceston at St Marys Church. They held the reception at the White Hart Hotel in the Square. It was a bitterly cold day and the wind made it feel even colder.

I took this image on the day after the wedding (Sunday). I met the couple around 7am so we could get a shot of the sun rising as they walked into the sea.............how romantic is that!!!

There were so many people on the beach waiting to see the bride arrive. The atmosphere was magical.

Angie and Andrew's humanist ceremony was held on the beach on a glorious hot sunny day.

I asked the owners of this wonderful beach hut if we could use it for a few photos.

Sonia and Neil were so so lucky with the weather. Rain all day Friday and then all day on the Sunday. But on the Saturday a beautiful day.

Perfect!

The marriage and reception was held in The New Continental Hotel.

Apart from marrying Sonia, the other big thrill of the day was having some fun cruising around in the Aston Martin with the roof down.

We need a drink!!! NOW!!!

We were with the couple for most of the day. When we left in the evening the party was in full swing. Every one was having a great time!!!!

Sarah and Aaron were married on Saturday 20th March. A misty wet day, but by late afternoon the weather changed and we managed to take a few shots outside. We had a great day with them and their guests.

The evening light was fantastic along with a beautiful moody sky! I used a touch of fill in flash held off camera to the right and below the couples eye line to give a soft uplifting light for this shot

I was asked by close friends to take some images on the beach at Charlestown nr St Austell of their Mum & Dad's Golden wedding anniversary. We all had a great time and to top it all the weather was beautiful too.

The above image shows an example of a boxed set of 30 8"x6" images in a 10"x8" mount and beautifully presented in a hinged box. We would normally charge £10 each for a mounted print of this size which would cost a total of £300.

Burgh Island Wedding

This was different! A really unique wedding held on Burgh Island.

The weather was cold wet and very very windy. It was great fun getting onto the island on the sea tractor.

Even though the weather was against us I still managed to capture a few shots outside.

A nice touch for the guests in the evening. A surprise fireworks display. Still very windy but at least the rain had stopped.

We really had a great time photographing everyone's wedding last year. Every wedding is so different and unique and so special.

2009 was a great year for JM Photography, and we met some lovely people with all the weddings we photographed.

Kate & Ian's wedding

Kate and Ian were married on the 14th of November on a very wet and windy day.

Although the weather was awful we still managed to take a few shots outside.

Ian trying to settle his nerves with a quick swig from his hip flask.

Off camera flash

I'm going to use this post to show how off camera flash can be so much more creative than leaving the flash on the camera. There will be images from weddings that I have covered as well as shots I've taken in my spare time. This shot above was taken in my kitchen whilst my two daughters, my partner and my son in law were playing frustration. A great traditional Xmas game.

I placed my flash (off camera) on the table below the camera and facing up towards the subjects. the settings I used in manual mode was iso500 60th sec at f4.

These two images above and below show how natural the lightning looks when using the flash off camera.

If you look at the shadow cast of the glass on the boys face you can work out what direction the light is coming from.

I held the flash off camera with my left hand stretched out as far as I could and then took the image holding the camera with just my other hand. As you can see the light falls nicely on the boys face casting a soft shadow on the left hand side of his face (right as you look at the image). If this shot had been taken with the flash on the camera the image would have looked very harsh and flat.

Many people ask why they should hire a professional photographer when they have a digital camera of their own, sometimes even the same camera as the hired photographer might have. It's not just the camera/equipment that the pros use it's the creativity and techniques. This only comes with years of experience and practice and trying to come up with new and inspirational ideas all the time!!

Tertia & Lee's wedding Saturday 31st October

Tertia and Lee were married in St Marys at Plympton, and then followed on to Langdon Court for the reception.

My assistant Tracy took some wonderful shots during Tertia & Lee's wedding.

Although it was a small group we all had loads of fun!!! Another group shot taken with my 'magic' mono pod.

This image lent itself to a 'sepia' tone.

And yes this was a 'non alcoholic' drink!

The couple couldn't stop smiling all through the day.

This was a set up, they hadn't really had their first argument......

Carol & Colin's wedding on Saturday 3rd October

Carol and Colin were married at the Mutley Babtist Church on Saturday the 3rd of October.

The reception was held at the Dartmoor Wildlife Park Sparkwell.

Carol's daughter was looking a bit impatient waiting for her Mum to arrive at the church on time.

This church is a great place to photograph a wedding, as there is so much space to move round and catch all the special moments during the service.

Carol and Colin were really enjoying themselves.

They chose a great car for the day.

Carol's youngest daughter enjoyed delivering her speech. She was so confident!!

This a beautiful church to get married in. Fantastic surroundings, and we were so lucky to be blessed with wall to wall sunshine. I took this shot above using my mono pod raised above my head.

The Wedding of the Year.........my Daughters Wedding

Laura and Gary were married on Saturday 29th August at St Stephens church in Launceston. The reception was held at The Eagle House Hotel near Launceston Castle.

Just for a change I wasn't the one taking the photos for this wedding. But Leanne and Tracey part of the JM Photography team did a fantastic job capturing all the moments of my daughters wedding day.

Laura and I arrived at the church 22 minutes late and you can tell by the faces that people were getting bored. Including Ken the Vicar.

The weather was great all day. This allowed us to have the the roof down on this lovely Triumph Vitesse.

This is a very unusual shot. There were two wedding receptions at the New Continental Hotel. Most brides at the same wedding venue stay clear of each other. Not these two, they bumped into each other and thought it would make a good image for the album. Why not?

Rachel and Sam had a really lovely day. We enjoyed taking their wedding images and being part of their day.

Hey John, these photos are something else! We fell in love with the ones inside the old buildings at the end of the garden, Kirsty has already chosen that one for the wall apparently. And what a cool shot that one through the window is. We're definitely looking forward to the others arriving! Thanks for everything again, you guys really are a good memory of the day, Dan & Kirsty.

Julie and Phil were married in Anthony church near Torpoint.

The weather in the morning was awful with non stop rain through most of the morning. But as the day unfolded the weather cleared up and the sun came out, and it turned out to be a beautiful summers day.

Their wedding car was a stunning vintage Rolls Royce.

Sunglasses were the order of the day when they came out from the church.

Who thought we could take a romantic picture of the couple in a field of corn, with all the rain we had in the morning.

An unusual way of holding an empty glass.

A wedding cake with a difference, scones with cream and plenty of strawberries. Both Pat and I had our fair share too.

Donna and Jason had a great day getting married at The Bedford Hotel in Tavistock. The weather was kind to them as well.

After we finished the photographs in the gardens, we decided it would be a good idea to take some shots around the outdoor market.

Donna had no money with her as there aren't any pockets in a wedding dress. So in her words she 'blagged' an ice cream from the ice cream van.

A few minutes of peace and quiet.

The couple never seemed to stop smiling all day long.

Ben & Lisa were married in North Hill Church near Launceston and held their reception in a marquee near Launceston. Is was a very wet day, they even had a hail storm while they were driving form the church to the reception. Although the weather was far from perfect, they still had a fabulous day. The weather didn't bother them at all.

The detail on this cake was amazing!

There were some sunny spells during the day, to enable me to get some shots before the heavens opened.

We took some crazy shots through the day. The girls just wanted to have fun!
